Brands Hatch up next for GT World Challenge and Rossi

Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe Powered by AWS heads to Brands Hatch in just a few weeks' time for its first Sprint Cup fixture of 2022, following the Endurance Cup season-opener at the weekend in which MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi made his full-time series debut.

The crack Team WRT outfit, for which Rossi is driving this year, will head to Kent on 30 April/1 May with plenty of confidence after one of its machines claimed outright honours at Imola on Sunday. The three-hour contest was won by Dries Vanthoor, Kelvin van der Linde and Charles Weerts in their Audi R8 LMS GT3 EVO2, who collectively completed 94 laps to win by over six seconds from Raffaele Marciello, Daniel Juncadella and Jules Gounon's Mercedes-AMG.

Understandably, many eyes were trained on Rossi as the megastar began his new career as a professional competitor on four wheels. Emblazoned with 'The Doctor's' iconic #46, his WRT Audi was competitive throughout the weekend as the Italian produced a solid showing on home soil.

Running with Nico Müller and Frderic Vervisch, the latter of whom will partner Rossi in the 60-minute Sprint Cup races at Brands Hatch, the icon's machine frequently featured on the fringes of the top-ten in a 50+ car field throughout the Imola event. The trio ultimately finished 17th of 40 finishers following a pit-stop error.

Rossi's presence attracted a significant crowd to the Italian circuit with passionate displays of yellow around the venue. And this is expected to continue with another bumper crowd at Brands Hatch in just under four weeks' time.
